How can you tell it's a 1991? |

From here, appears to be any '88 to '91 model. Without more info, this should be changed to 1988 as first year of possible range. |

If any, this LTD Crown Victoria from this angle is a 1990. As referred to by Ford_Guy numerous times, 1988-1989 models had flat centered fleet hubcaps. 1990-1991 models first introduced the rounded center fleet caps. This one here has rounded hubcaps, so 1990 is the default year. |

I assumed that dukefan had seen the front so I just left it alone, especially considering that it can be a 1991 model as well due to the hubcaps (thanks Snookie ![]() |

hey anytime |

OK. Somehow I missed the hubcap variance. Over the years I have always been leery of identifying a car by it's hubcaps as there usually were optional ones. -- Last edit: 2010-12-19 02:14:03 |

It's the same car that was used in the last tv movie same plates even. ![]() |

Commander_57: I can assure you that the information on the hubcaps is correct ![]() |

Who changed it to '90 it's a '91, it has the rounded fleet caps. |

Didn't you read our discussion above? 1990 was the first year for those caps. I've been doing some amateur research online to confirm, and so far I haven't found anything to the contrary. |

thought they were '91 only. |

How so? I'm not asking to give you a hard time or anything. I'm just curious since perhaps you've seen a brochure or something like that which contradicts what I say. |

The only way to tell if this car is a 1991, would be a shot of the front end to see if it has clear parking lenses. Clear parking lamps were only available on the 1991 LTD Crown Victoria. |

That's what I have always thought too but these other folks feel there is a wheel cover difference. As I have posted before, however, you have to be careful identifying cars solely by their wheel covers as there were so many optional ones available and the covers of different years were readily interchangeable. |

Commander_57: You make it seem like if I believe there is a wheel cover difference without solid justification. I don't "feel" there is a wheel cover difference, I know there is. I know for a fact that the 1988-1991 LTD Crown Victoria [P72] (which was the police/taxi) model had three different wheel covers during that time span: The full-wheel covers which were first introduced for the 1988 model year and whose basic design lived up to 2002: ![]() The "flat" center caps used on 1988-1989 models: ![]() And of course, the more rounded ones up top. Here's a 1990 model with these dog-dish hubcaps: http://www.flickr.com/photos/21431798@N05/4438858159/ I apologize if I sound a bit combative but I'm sure most of you know by now that I don't say things unless I am certain of them. And of course you are right Commander_57, with regards to the ease with which hubcaps can be replaced. But under that basic thought, we could think the same about many other vehicles and write off the hubcaps as being an undependable clue. I identify based on what I can see. If I see nothing out of place, then I go with my educated guess/hunch. |

Sorry, Ford Guy. "Feel" was a bad choice of words. Of course we have to go with what we see and not assume modification/parts switching. |

That's okay. And again, I apologize if I came off as a bit combative. One thing I will say is that so far, I have been unsuccessful in finding a 1990 Crown Victoria [P72] official brochure/picture on the internet (without having to buy one). I've only been able to go off of independent/private pictures and such. But I'll continue looking ![]() |

True. The Old Car Brochure site cuts off at 1987. I keep hoping they will add newer cars. |
