Series V introduced Sep 1965 The car was registered between 01 August 1967 and 31 July 1968. Sunbeam lettering missing from nose - confirms Series V. |

Spoiler I believe 2 were used, one being modified so it could sink quickly after being pushed off the Wallsend Ferry landing stage. |

Maybe - the new thumbs show a possible driver's door mirror as it sits on quayside (2nd thumb, but oddly not in other driving pictures), which disappears as it goes splash and the driver's door is now closed (3rd thumb) - gravity or discontinuity? Plus something appears on the top of the windscreen around the interior mirror which was not there before and the mirror looks smaller than other pics. But I'd expect the splash car in thumbs 3 & 4 to be different from the other shots if 2 cars were used, and am puzzled if thumb 2 actually has a door mirror why this does not show anywhere else. Have looked at these photos and the sequence in the film a few times and can't see anything to suggest the splash car was not an identical S5 Alpine. Also Bebert's 1st thumb in car park shows windscreen rail already without sun visors and one of the hood clips - did the car have sun visors anywhere in the film? All Alpines after Sept 66 had reversing lights - are these ever visible? NVK 620F was probably genuine - the 1967 issue of this combination started with E suffix in June and continued with F until completed in August, so should be one of the last Alpines before production stooped Jan 68. |

The only additional observation I have is about the front and rear mud-flaps seen in the main picture. The fronts extend beyond the door cill but are not seen in the second thumbnail and the front corner of the cill is visible suggesting two cars. |

Ah - I missed the kudoses - sorry, I mean mudflaps. One odd thing is that all front shots have rubber insets in the over-riders, but they're not there on rear in thumb 4. As far as I know all S4 and S5 Alpines have the rubber bits with the smaller over-rider than S3 which came in for start of S4, but one reference book publicity photo of early S4 has plain rear over-riders in the smaller format. Not really sure what this means for the car here, but any rear views from anywhere in the film could be useful. |

I think there was only one car. The thing that 'appears' around the interior mirror in the thumb showing it dropping off the quay is actually an illusion. What you're looking at is the white object on the rear floor, showing between the seats as the car goes into that angle. As for the drivers side door mirror, again I think thats an illusion where the door is ajar and you can see some body work/car interior through the gap. These would have been cheap enough to get hold of in the early 70s, there wouldn't really be any saving in buying two and dressing one up to destroy it. |

Interior has been stripped for tipping off the jetty - leaving lots of exposed white floorpan. And the boot seems to open as it hits the water, which luckily means the girl could escape after all. |
