I got the cars vehicle identification number to prove that's it is actually a 1978 Pontiac Firebird Formula. The cars vehicle identification number is actually 2U87L8L146648. I request that you repost it as a 1978 Pontiac Firebird Formula. This was used into season 6 as James Garner didn't like the look of the 1979 Firebird. |

MaindrianPace's info appears to come from this Mecum listing: https://www.mecum.com/lots/204101/ Assuming it's correct, this is another "Firebird Formula as Esprit." -Kurt -- Last edit: 2023-10-27 05:32:00 |

From Ep.2.07 It wasn't the same car that was used in the scene, note that the white stripe on the tire is much thinner than the one in the following scenes. |

1978 Firebird Formula 400 VIN: 2U87K8L147393 (it differs from the car discussed above by having the "K" engine...the 403 c.i. V-8 with 4bbl available 1977-79). Used by Garner for the series and subset TV films and retained by him for several years. Sold for $115,000 at the Barrett-Jackson auction in January 2019. The car was stock but fitted with a skid plate under the oil pan. It also had two microphone jacks nicely mounted in the center console. -- Last edit: 2024-10-31 06:24:12 |

Baube The VIN codes don't lie. "U" means Formula. Writing for a magazine, I confirmed the VIN code of the car I mentioned above. Esprits were "T". Trans Ams were "V" (1972-4) or "W" 1975-79. |
