 Though the coupe’s physical appearance changed little over these years, the class underwent a name change several times. The V8 and V12 coupes were called the 500 SEC and 600 SEC, respectively, in 1992 and 1993. The 600 SEC was the first V12 coupe ever offered by Mercedes-Benz. From 1994-1997, the model names were changed to the S 500 coupe and the S 600 coupe. The name "CL" was adopted in 1998, and the W140 coupes were called the CL 500 and CL 600 from 1998-1999. The previous dates apply to U.S. market models only. European and most worldwide market CL badged C140 models were introduced in 1997 and production ended in march 1998.

 This car is a SEC,it was the car of gangster Sergei Timofeev "Sylvester" in witch he died on 13 September 1994,so the car can not be named S coupe or CL and has also the bottoms grey and has on the rear pillar the C pillar the V12 badge so is 600SEC

 Well, these bases or older and were based on earlier records (before the car exploded) and were updated as time went by - up until late 2005.

 500 is not because has v12 bagde on the C pillar so it means is 600,i have seen in a documentary that is no more on internet now,and CL can not be named in the car papers because CL name came in 1996 1997

 Should be an S 600 Coupe then and indeed a 1994 because of the nomenclature change per MB:

Quote Analogous to the other passenger car types new type designations were also introduced with the S-Class coupés in June 1993; the 600 SEC, for instance, thus became the S 600 Coupé.
