Were black Volvo's back in the 70ies, also Nomenklatura-cars in Poland? |

Never heard about it. Maybe they had some, but definitely it was not any "stereotypic" nomenclature car. It seems today most of people associate Edward Gierek era (whole 70's) with Fiat 132p, but in fact the most liked by government western cars (of course they had also a lot of Volgas) were Peugeots. Mostly 504, sometimes 604. -- Last edit: 2010-11-10 16:55:49 |

I think it's because Gierek used to associate well with Frenches, especially with French communist party. |

Indeed. Well, as maybe you know, rumors say it was the same with cooperation with Berliet. In Berliet's supervisory board had to sit mainly French socialists. Although there are also other stories about it. It is funny, as before the WW II Gierek was expelled from France and blacklisted (for being an active member of their communist party) - means his official visits in France were in fact illegal, even still in the 70's. Though none already cared about it there. -- Last edit: 2010-11-13 15:27:33 |

The DDR-nomenklatura has chosen Volvo an Citroen, because they didn't want to use cars, made in NATO-countries. Officially. Günter Mittag, the economy-"expert" in the Politbüro had also a Mercedes Benz 450 SEL 6.9 The bloke, who had said in the 80ies "The Trabant is good and modern enough four our citizens" |
