Coach-built funeral car on 1957 Cadillac commercial chassis (100% sure), probably the Eureka "S&S" series (80% sure) |

I would say by the time this hearse was built 'Sayers & Scovill' (S&S) and 'Eureka' were still independent manufacturers. Today they are part of the 'Accubuilt' company. http://www.sscoachcompany.com/ http://www.eurekacoach.com/ http://www.accubuilt.com/ |

Alexander: Entschuldigung! Please forgive my mistake. I meant "Hess & Eisenhardt" S&S Series, not "Eureka". |

Don't worry! Through your comment I have just learned that Sayers & Scoville became Hess & Eisenhardt in 1942. Thanks! One more puzzle stone in the big, wide world of motoring history. ![]() |

I truly hate to correct Mr. Cadillac for I appreciate his website since I first saw it. But in this case I have to say: The first mentioned company was the best. This is actually a 1957 Eureka Landau. ![]() For I already identified three other black 1957 Eurka Landaus on this website, I wonder if it´s always the same car. Concerning the S&S thing: Willard C. Hess and Charles A. Eisenhardt bought the trademarks and assets of S&S and renamed the company Hess & Eisenhardt, but the funeral coaches and ambulances were continued under the well known trademark "S&S". All other products carried the H&E-Logo from then on. |

You are correct Animatronixx, the La Bamba car, Quantum Leap car and this car are one and the same! This '57 Eureka and a '58 Superior Landaulet were owned by the studio that made these movies/shows and they used them in a number of productions over several years. A friend of mine purchased both cars from the studio in the mid-1990's, and I had the opportunity to drive the Eureka on a number of occasions. It is actually a Landau Combination (obviously no way to determine that from these exterior pics). Both cars are now in the hands of private collectors. |
