Some versions of the Arnage used the 4-speed 4L80-E automatic gearbox from General Motors. The 4L80-E is related to the 3-speed Turbo Hydra-Matic 400 gearbox, also known as the Super Turbine 400. It was a heavy-duty gearbox made to tolerate towing heavy loads in combination with engines that had a high torque yield. Thus it was mainly used in GM full-size pickups. But its heady-duty nature also made it the perfect companion for engines like those used in the Bentley. Even though GM still uses the "Hydra-Matic" name, it’s not technically correct. Since the early ‘90s the transmission is electronically shifted, not hydraulically shifted. |
