From the "Task-Force" series. Some are listed as 4400: /vehicles_make-Chevrolet_model-4400.html |

This has a medium-length wheelbase, and it's a 1 1/2 ton truck, so that would make it a 4400. And being a "Task-Force" truck, that makes it a Viking 4400. |

This truck has a 1955-57 grille: 1955 // 1956 (Click...) It also have a 1956-57 hood emblem. But the fender emblem is the "1956 only" one. Chevrolet 4400 1955 // 1956 // 1957 (Click...) And the Viking name came only with the 1958 my. So it cannot be one. About the 4400 id and the "medium length wheelbase", according to TrucksPlanet.com: 4100 - 1.5-ton model with 130-inch wheelbase. 4400 - 1.5-ton model with 154-inch wheelbase. 6100 - 2-ton model with 130-inch wheelbase. 6400 - 2-ton model with 154-inch wheelbase. 8100 - 2.5-ton model with 132.5-inch wheelbase. 8200 - 2.5-ton model with 144.5-inch wheelbase. 8400 - 2.5-ton model with 154.5-inch wheelbase. 10400 - 3-ton model with 156.5-inch wheelbase. And all look quite similar (Ok, not for the 10400, which seems to have a double rear axle): 4400 / 6400 / 8400 trucks (click...) One can see the medium- and the heavy-duty trucks have a slightly different grille, and the one of the Tv-series has a medium-duty one. But what detail help us to see whether it is a 4100 / 6100 (1½ton / 2-ton - 130-inch wheelbase both) or a 4400 / 6400 (1½ton / 2-ton - 154-inch wheelbase both) truck? It's always the same problem with Chevrolet trucks: same cab, almost same chassis, but a lot of available payloads and so a lot of possible names... So wouldn't it be wiser to just call it a 4100, i.e. the lower possibility? ⇒ 1956 Task-Force (4100?) -- Last edit: 2014-09-16 02:41:02 |
