By the way, some urban legends support informations than Brasilian Volkswagen 1600 4-door sedan and Brasilia was based on Typ 3 and Typ 4 chassis. In true life it was more complicated. Yes, some engines came from Typ 3, however chassis had the most elements (e.g. front suspension) from Typ 1. -- Last edit: 2010-09-21 17:05:07 |

"Brasília measured 4,01 meters in length - 17 cm less than the VW Fusca - but the distance among axes was the same of the whole line. It followed the European tendency of urban cars, easy to maneuver and agile in the traffic. It was known for many as "she" in function of a commercial strategy of the mark. As there was a third door, Volkswagen it classified it as perua (wagon) so that it received the smallest incidence of taxes attributed the utilitarian ones at that time. In spite of the trick, Brasília was an automobile two-volumes hatchback as Fiat 147 and Gol." (http://www2.uol.com.br/bestcars/classicos/brasilia-1.htm) |

@130rapid: the first 4-door Brazilian VW 1600 from the 60ies is indeed based on the Typ 3 (the German one), resp. on one of its 4-door-Prototype. This prototype still exists (I don't know, if placed in the AutoStadt or the VW Museum). A friend of mine owns the only one in Europe. Together with two SP's and one Karmann TC. |
