Those '57 Mercs are butt-ugly, and some of the Buicks (especially the '58s) look so clunky. But the Dodges rock! In 1957 they ran 310hp D500s and some agencies ran dual-quad 325hp Super D500s. In '57 they purchased 8-10 of the rare D501s: powered by the 354-cu.in. Chrysler hemi with dual Carter WCFB four-barrels, 11.0:1 compression. 340hp rating was said to be conservative. Beefed up suspensions using Chrysler, Imperial and light truck parts. Perhaps the fastest car on the road in '57, built too late for the stock car season, but participated in some sports car races.
