There's a Lada in the same film:

FSO cars were frequently visible on China streets until late 90s.
It was the biggest export market for FSO Polonez (41,335 pcs in 1978-1991 period).
125p earned less popularity (11,849 pcs. total sold).

The white car is 1979+ PF 125p for sure.

That's why I originally listed it as 1979 125p.
Anyway "Caro" they had too. Perhaps after it the Dongfanghong was shaped, as it is similar. It was funny to see this car for the first time in 1997 or 1998 edition of "Samochody Świata".
According to it Dongfanghong was more "flexible". They had more body versions, and offered the wagon much earlier than we. :D

Tonight I saw Zhang Yimou's The Story of Qiu Ju (1992). There are some Polonezes, quite a lot of Lada [2107] taxis and even a Fiat 126p taxi. :)

OT-ish, but here's a 126p recently spotted in Beijing:
Quote Export of the 126P to China started in the late 1970’s. At the time, the Chinese central government was directly responsible for all car imports. The government bough the Fiats in large batches, typically a few thousand cars per transaction. This kind of deal was typical was typical for trade between communist countries. There was usually no money involved, it was all barter trade.

Most were distributed to taxi companies, which were all government owned. Later on in the 1980’s private buyers could get one too, if they were prepared to wait very long and pay very much...

Nearly all of the taxi-company cars were painted in exactly the same yellow as this car on the Beijing Tuning Street, so it is likely an ex-taxi.

Interesting choice for the taxi.
China imported also many Jelcz trucks.

If China will receive "market economy status" in December, "Polonez" (by Dongfanghong ) may return on Polish roads :sun:
Spoiler - click here to see it
Yes, I know they (rather) don't make them anymore.
