Something very similar but white appears in an episode of Series Three I did the other day. Even the plate check I ran came back with Bedford Unknown!

What was the registration? The only Bedfords I can currently find, that were 'A' registered, were owned by Yorkshire police forces.

AS shown here A623UJD

Looks more like a Prison bus than a police one yet it had the Met crest on the side.

The vehicle details for A623 UJD are:

Date of Liability 01 10 1996
Date of First Registration 06 07 1984
Year of Manufacture 1984
Cylinder Capacity (cc) 5400CC
Fuel Type Heavy Oil
Vehicle Colour WHITE

5400CC [330cuin.] diesel so Bedford VAS 5 or SB 5, its difficult to be certain but w/base looks short so VAS 5.
Body possibly Willowbrook but cannot confirm it.
Similar, but earlier, Metropolitan Police van..

VAS5 has smaller 6 studs rims while SB5 has larger 8 studs
rims. Thus, this is a Bedford SB5...

1984/85 just possible as the end of TK production.

It could have a TK chassis as a basis (likely 6-Ton 151" Long Wheelbase with the larger 20" wheels) and how less likely perhaps to be a shortened SB chassis? However anything recognisably 'TK' was changed; driving position is higher therefore forward seating ahead of the front axle no longer necessary and front overhang reduced. Engine access must be inside the vehicle with no likely external access panels or side grilles. Not impossible for major changes when you consider many normal control J-types (TJ) were modified to fully forward control.

There appears to be a small grille on the driver's side in a similar position to the grille on some fire appliances but about half the size. Large enough probably for an air cleaner inlet panel for a TK.

Taken with the 'emergency-vehicles.co.uk' link, enough to say it is likely to be a TK.
