According to the German 'Autokatalog' import of this Suzuki didn't start before modell year 1980, and it was sold as Jimny. Importer Müller-Buchhof in Munich (same city as where the Derrick films were shot) asked DM 14500,- for the car.

But not as Jimny, or? I haven't seen this name in Germany for these old models. They were named LJ and later SJ.

Ah, I checked 1978, 1979 and 1980. In 1980 it is called Jimny (in the older years both names were mentioned). But indeed in the 1981 edition it is called LJ80, and there was a new importer: Suzuki Motorhandels GmbH, also in Munich.

Thanks for the correction, the rest of Europe got these in 1978. Jimny name was only used officially in Japan.

'Eljot' was just a nickname and never the official name of the car in Germany, I think, because Suzuki would have been sued by Disney otherwise. ('Pete's Dragon' was released as 'Elliot das Schmunzelmonster' in Germany)

The name seems to have appeared in brochures, at least.

According to the german Wikipedia, "it was launched with the names Eljot and Jipsy, but these names had to be abandoned due to a lack of licensing rights." Soooo... back to LJ 80 ?
