This could be a "Silver Cloud II"? |
◊ 2010-08-05 20:14 |
Or a I, depending on the engine... (V8 or 6-in-line). |

I'm not certain, but I think it's a Cloud II. I've just found out the difference between (home market) I and II: The I had headlights with a 'spider' (bulb shroud), and the II had plain old sealed beams. -- Last edit: 2010-08-05 21:09:33 |

Thanks Chris. It is nice to have a distinguishing feature between I and II Clouds. But would this also apply to US versions? |

Er ... no, I'm afraid not. According to Wikipedia: Headlamp styling in the United States, 1940–1983 In 1940, a consortium of state motor vehicle administrators standardised upon a system of two 7 in (178 mm) round sealed beam headlamps on all vehicles – the only system allowed for 17 years. |

It's RHD though. |

I know ... that's why I said it was a Cloud II. |

UK did have sealed beam headlights at one point... |

I know, but IIRC not until the late 60s/early 70s (Lucas being behind the times as usual). I had them on a 1970 Cortina II; they weren't the best headlights I've used, but they weren't bad. |

Some parts are missing on this car ... |

To help it take off on short runways. |

But......... As I have said before, it takes about ten minutes to change both headlamps, one screw at the bottom and a plug-in cable, so, to my certain knowledge as a Bentley owner, no guide at all. /vehicle.php?id=717359 " Those amongst us who try to date post war Bentleys by looking at the presence or otherwise of headlamp spiders may care to ponder upon this car, which should have them but hasn't, probably due to being retrofitted with sealed beam units that dip to the right and emit yellow light." -- Last edit: 2014-07-11 18:33:58 |

@johnfromStaffs: I take your point, but we have to find some criterion for identifying Clouds I/II even if only in the UK. To be honest, I've used P700s as well as sealed beams, and I preferred the former. |

I didn't remember that in this film was present also Janet Agren. Good times were when Italy was still able to attract Scandinavian girls... |

To quote from Graham Robson's book; "Rolls-Royce and Bentley: Volume 1, Standard Production Models 1945 to 1965 (Motor Racing Publications 1984)": - "Externally, it was well-nigh impossible to pick a V-8 engine from a six-cylinder engine car, except that purely for detailed styling purposes the front ventilation air intakes were now coloured black. There were no new badges, no new items of decoration, and no gratuitous changes for change's sake. There was even only one exhaust outlet,(alongside the left-side rear overrider) for this new engine." However I have looked at Series 1s and Series 2s and can see no difference. -- Last edit: 2014-07-11 20:19:50 |
