Was Comet ever a separate brand? To me it is a Mercury Comet, Mercury's variant of the Falcon. I don't think we can determine whether it is an S-22 from this angle , but if it is it is 1961.

This episode is from the 1959-60 season so I doubt it's a '61.

Looking at the Comet archive section, I see that several are listed as S-22s but I am not sure that an S-22 can be that easily distinguished. Most of the 'éxtras' were on the inside of the car. It was only available for that latter part of the 1961 season. Most of the 'éxtras' were on the inside of the car. There was still a standard two door sedan in 1961 as well.

The car in this picture appears to be a 4 door.

The S-22 Model started in 1961. This car is a 60 so it is not a S-22. You can tell it is a 60 by the Comet letters just above the rear bumper. On a 60 they were individual letters as shown. On the 61 the letters were stamped in a chrome piece and painted black.

As far as the Comet being a Mercury. It came under no Ford division in 60 and 61. It was origionally suppose to be an Edsel but the Edsel division was dropped. Comets did not become Mercury until the 1962 model.

Technically true but they are all generall listed as Mercurys for convenience and ease of information location.

They should be listed like they were sold, If the brand was Comet in 60 and 61, then those should be listed on the site without Mercury IMHO
