This is a 1956 Ford F100 panel van. And in this case it is an LA City Rescue Ambulance (NOT a delivery van as described above). It has the Los Angeles City seal on the door and a large Red Cross emblem on the side, and at the time these rigs were operated by the LAPD. The emblem on the grille is a V8 emblem (eight in the V). So it had at least a 270 cu. in. V8. This was a standard shift, 3 speed manual transmission. Tare weight was about 2 tons. The F-100 came with an optional Fordomatic automatic transmission but as this is a manual as there is no Fordomatic emblem on the nose. -- Last edit: 2012-05-04 23:28:09 |
