As it seems to be French Police, it could also be a Citroen. There is a lower possibility of this being a Fiat Ducato. |

...je pense qu'il devait y avoir accord entre PSA et FIAT pour se partager le marché européen. Fiat distribuant l' Italie, l' allemagne, etc... Peugeot/Citroen ... la France, l'Espagne, etc... Déjà à l'époque du prédécesseur le Fiat242/Citroen C35 il semblait y avoir arrangement de la sorte... En tout les cas je n'ai aucuns souvenirs d' un Fiat Ducato ou d' un 242 immatriculé en France, ce qui ne veut pas dire qu'il n'y en ai pas eut à titres isolés? -- Last edit: 2006-05-02 13:22:20 |

No it wasn't. The deal was only to save on development cost of the new van, so the three companies (or two depending how you look at it) Developed a new van together. Sale and marketing however was to each individual company, there where as far as I know no specific agreements about wheather not entering a market with one of the three brands. Therefor at most European markets all three models where sold. Of course in France and Spain, Peugeot and Citroën sold the most, due their historic influence in the specific market. I guess that in Italy the Fiat sold the most. Also most camper builder used the Ducato to base their Camper on... Furthermore there are even some mentions, also on this site of a Talbot equivalent of this car, although I am not really sure if that ever existed.... The same applied more or less for the Citroën C35 and it's equivalent from Fiat, developed together, but branded by each company. There was no Peugeot version of this because development started before the Peugeot takeover in 1975. Later on Peugeot and Citroën would developed the Berlingo/Partner together. This time not with Fiat. They did however had the Partner/Jumpy/and the Fiat equivalent of a new smaller van developed together. Also The Evasion, 807, Ullysee and the Lancia equivalent of an MPV car. And of course the bigger van Citroën Jumper, Peugeot (forgot the name) and a Fiat equivalent.... But as to this specific photo, we know it is probally not a Ducato, since it is France, but we can never tell from this picture wheater it is a Citroën C25 or a Peugeot J5... -- Last edit: 2006-05-02 22:48:02 |

There is also the Citroën C1 / Peugeot 107 / Toyota Aygo. Equivalent to the Jumper is the Boxer I guess? The Talbot version of J5/C25/Ducato was the Talbot Express, still sold in the UK when the mark was stopped in France. Could be, it also might have been a strong selling point, since the smaller van of the Simca 1301 (sold as Talbot), was quite popular, at least it was here, the postal services and Telephone company (we still had one telephone company in those days) used them quite a time as delivery and maintance vehicles overhere. Jumper = Boxer, correct. |

En fait, et après mûre réflexion, les quelques Fiat Ducato de cette série ont été importés (ou distribués) en version Châssis nu, pour le développement Camping-car, à des fabricants type Caravelair. Et j'avais oublié le Talbot Express, pour rajouter au bordel ambiant! |

Off topic: I saw a Talbot Express on the street today!! So I am 100% convinced it exists, it was a Camper and yes, it was a UK one....! |
