I'm sorry, but this is not a 1961 Volvo 121 [P120], but something quite different. Just beneath the boot lid, to the right of the number plate, just above the filler cap, it can be seen a B18 badge. That engine (1,8 litre instead of 1,6 litre) was introduced as model year 1962 at the autumn of 1961, when concerning the Amazon and the PV, although it was in production during 1961 for the P1800. To the left of the number plate, it can be seen a "Z". That is an overdrive badge like here http://www.volvoamazonpictures.se/modelyears/arsmodeller.html (look at 1961), and as the overdrive (M41 Laycock de Normanville type D) was only fitted to sports versions this is not a 121, but a 122S, as was indeed most export versions. The [P120] is only half correct. Quite likely this is a [P122352] where P = presonbil (SWE for private car instead of Bus or HGV), the first "1" for sedan (instead of "2" for estate), the second "2" for four doors (instead of "3" for two doors), the third "2" for engine B18B (instead of "1" for B18A), the fourth "3" for special export version, the fifth "5" for the gearbox, and the sixth "2" for right hand drive. The boot handle was only available with the B18 engine for 1962 and 1963. That is a 1962-63 Volvo 122S, [P122352] -- Last edit: 2011-07-15 12:27:57 |

Glass's info says UK got 122S (with 1.6L) Oct 58 to Jan 62, when renamed 122 and B18D 1.8L engine fitted. Then updated Nov 62 with reversing light fitted, Aug 63 new boot handle and rear number plate housing. If plate is 67 EYX, issued London from Dec 62, or if 67 EYK also issued London from Oct 62. |

I used to be a member of the Swedish Volvo Amazon Club, as my first car was a 1960 B16 Volvo Amazon [P12134], and I got several issues of their club magazin. What I read there coinside with this page http://www.volvoamazonpictures.se/ (click on "production", then "power train") which says that the 122S was in production 1959-67. I've also got a neighbour who has a 1966 Volvo 122S, or to be quite correct that is what it says on the front wing, with the "S" highlighted in red. BUT I stand corrected concerning the engine. The B18B was only used for the P1800 in the beginning, but was fitted to the Amazon from 1967. Indeed the engine fitted to the Volvo above is B18D. Sorry! -- Last edit: 2011-07-15 23:54:19 |

I can only tell you what I can read in my book - I don't know these Volvos, so someone else has to understand and interpret the info. Would UK numbering be different? The thumb looks a C plate = 1965. |
