Cadillac Sedan DeVille. Can it be any clearer? |
◊ 2006-04-30 15:57 |
Clearly, it is NOT a "Sedan de Ville". It can't be any clearer that it's a 1978 Fleetwood Brougham [100% suer]. Note the opera lamps and script on roof sail panel. Note also the "B" pillar between the doors; this design was used ONLY on the Brougham. |

Oh, so these are an indication that it's a Fleetwood Brougham, and not a de Ville. Okay, good to know. |

Thats not a '78 model. 78's had a "Cadillac" badge above the grill, but not engraved on it like the '77's or '79's. http://www.roymorris.ca/images/1978cadi/caddy0007.jpg |

DT: the image you provided shows a 1978 Coupe de Ville, with the NEW, solid-color, stand-up, see-through crest that was available ONLY on that specific model. The movie car DEFINITELY is a Fleetwood Brougham, with the Fleetwood, stand-up, circular WREATH and CREST that was used also on the Eldorado, the limousine and the Seville. The "Sedan de Ville", on the other hand, carried the traditional "V" and crest in the front, center of the hood. |

I'm not saying it's not a Fleetwood Brougham, I'm just saying that it's definetly not a '78. All the '78 Cadillac Coupe Devilles, Sedan Devilles, and Fleetwoods, as well as having the crest, have their own "Cadillac" badge WRITTEN above the top right corner of the grill, but not actually on the grill. On the main picture of this Cadillac, I can just make out where "Cadillac" is ENGRAVED into the top right corner of the grill. |

Agreed I've looked at this a number of times and there does appear to be some script lettering (Cadillac probably) in the wide area at the top of the grill. |

DT: Did it occur to you that maybe the badge was removed, lost, stolen or the car was repainted and they did not replace the Cadillac script nameplate? This is DEFINITELY a 1978 model. If NOT, then what year could it possibly be? |

Sunbar says: 'I can just make out where "Cadillac" is ENGRAVED into the top right corner of the grill.' The 1978 models had a Cadillac script nameplate attached on the painted area above the grille, as correctly pointed out by "DT." I have enlarged all images up to 400 times and I see no "Cadillac" inscription on the grille frame. If there IS one, that I can't see, then it's possible the car was "repaired" with the top grille frame off a 1979 model. The grille on this car is DEFINITELY 1978. Again, 100% sure. |

Just to clarify, it was DT that said he saw 'Cadillac' engraved... I actually said 'there does appear to be some script lettering....' This was by watching two of the scenes at normal speed. I sometimes find it easier to identify features by watching a scene at normal or half speed rather than individual captured images. I also tried zooming in at high magnification and changing the contrast with no conclusive results, but I can't be so definite as to say I saw 'Cadillac' engraved. Just my observations as I have no opinion as to what the model year was. ![]() |

The grille itself is a 1978, the 1979 had many more bars. I should know, I have a '79. someone took off the Cadillac script above the grille, but thats a '78 grille. I'd bet my life on it, I know it is. |
