Stock footage from Berlin. The place was the Soviet monument on the "Straße des 17.Juni" in West-Berlin. A few hundred meters to the right was The Wall and behind it the Brandenburger Tor. Interesting footnote: due the Allied laws it was an exterritorial area of the Soviet Union in West Berlin. |

And the Soviet soldiers forming the guard of honour were escorted by British soldiers when they walked to and from the monument. |

Not always. In 1987 I've seen a black Volga with four Soviet officers, coming from the Checkpoint Charlie on the way to this monument. They weren't escorted. And the West Berlin-police had guards in front of the monument. It was forbidden to take the boardwalk along. You had to change the side of the street. |
