Very clearly a 1955 Lincoln. However, it sports a 1954 V device emblem on the front of the hood. Standard ornament for this location is a simple knight's head without the big V. The rest of the hood is 1955, including the unique lip molding, the upper ornament, and the L-I-N-C-O-L-N letters, which 1954 didn't use. Who knows why or who did this mod. Lincoln was built a two plants in 1955, one in Wayne, Mich. the other in east Los Angeles. Production at the LA plant was much lower than Wayne. I'm wondering if this convertible was an early production LA vehicle and the 1954 V hood emblem was substituted due to a shortage of the 1955 part? There is a scene in this episode where the CHP is trailing the convertible -- in their own 1955 Lincoln sedan. The difference in the two hood ornaments may be seen, the sedan having the proper 1955 part. ![]() -- Last edit: 2024-09-26 04:12:02 |

1955 Lincoln convertibles were rare when built. Total production at both plants, 1,487 vehicles. Probably less than 20% were built in LA. |
