Very much cars (sometimes the most, for example Mercedes, Opel and Ford) were imported to Turkey from Turkish workers from several other European countries. The selling-numbers of officially imported new cars was much lower, compared with the imports of used cars. I remember that from my childhood in the 70ies. When the summer-vacations started, the Turkish "guest-workers" (so the euphemistic term in Germany) have started with totally overloaded cars (often Mercedes W 114, W110, W 123, Opel Rekord, Ford Consul/Granada - and for sure Transit) back home. The cars were packed with fridges, washing-machines, all kind of furniture. All this stuff -the cars often, too- were brought to their families in Eastern Anatolia.
