looks like a 1968 Cadillac, but Im not sure |

Yes it's a '68, Superior Hight Top Ambulance |

How can you tell it's a '68 and not a '67? The sheet metal is the same for both years. Without a look at the front grille or rear tail-light housings, it could be either year. |

Cause Superior didn't manufactured round flashers in '67, they had rocket style back flashers that year and tryed a new look (2 round flashers) in the 1968 Hightop Rescuer version. |

I cheated, I watched the movie and saw the Ambulance tail lights....I'm sooo ashamed |

And by the tail lights, is it '67 or 68? |

1968 |

Thanks for the honest answer, "firebird86". As "antp" says often, we should not assert that a car is a given year or model unless we are almost 100% sure or can back up our asserion(s) with a convincing photo or explanation. Too many folks on this forum are "assertive" without providing any evidence. This is NOT competition, guys/gals; we don't care who is right nor do we mock anyone who is wrong; what we are trying to do here is to help "antp" build up a FACTUAL database of movie cars. Our comments, as in this case, should leave the Database user convinced of the correct identity of any given car, when the latter has been identified for sure. |

Sorry Corolere, but you're wrong. I own a 1967 Cadillac Superior High-Top with single, round, sealed red flashing lights. That was a california DOT rule back then. No bullet lights were allowed in that state. I have since converted these single sealed-beam lights to quad bullet lights 'cause they look so much cooler! |

Heh, I apologise, you're right!! |

It's actually a Superior Rescuer 54" Headroom |

I've always thought these old High-Top Caddy ambulances are AWESOME rigs!!! |

That's footage from the 1968 feature "Bullitt" so it's likely a '68 vehicle. |

I think this was used as the "Ghost-mobile" in Ghostbusters. The top lights and the siren look so familiar. |
◊ 2018-05-30 05:31 |
Nope!! That was a completely different vehicle, That Ghost-Mobile was a 1959 Standard Roof Cadillac Miller-Meteor Combination Car meaning that it could be used as both a hearse and ambulance, Which is what a lot of smaller and medium size towns did to save money when they couldn’t afford (or didn’t want to) purchase 2 completely separate vehicles for separate purposes. |

In the case of cost saving, isn't using the same vehicle in two duties can actually wear down the vehicle which can result in more wear and tear which can mean more repairs? You might as well just get two vehicles -- Last edit: 2018-07-07 14:49:11 |
