Just saw a preview for the 4th episode of season three. Looks like this car will get some more screen time.

He is driving a 90's Buick now :(

Well he couldn't be seen in this. He was taking surveillance of Walter, who would have recognized the car. Like I said though, it looks to be showing up in the next episode. Love those old M-bodies.

I hope so, I love the M's too.

I really like this character, I always liked Jonathan Banks too actually. Usually a bad guy and usually gets killed but fun to watch. :)

Yeah, he's natural in this role.

I just paused a scene on my hdtv. This car has an airbag, so it's more likely a 1989. It was standard that year. In 1988, it only just became an option about halfway through the year. I recently purchased a nearly identical 1989 Fifth Avenue. It's a great car.

Yup, most likely an '89, this 'Fifth has one of the most common color combos on the '88s/'89s

Looks like it's the end of the road for the 5th Avenue. They beat the back end of the car up pretty good last night backing it into a Cadillac. At least it was featured heavily in the episode.

I don't think so. Gus told Mike he would pay for the repairs (to both cars).

Unless they used 2 cars, I guess I was wrong before, because this car doesn't have an airbag. I think I just got a crappy view and made an incorrect assumption. It's an '88. There were some great shots of it in this episode- it has a lot of character to it.

These Fifth Avenues are really plentiful among the internet and used car dealers. Unlike the Gran Fury and the Diplomat and early LeBaron's, these seem to have survived the trials of time pretty well.

That's because there were more Fifth Avenues made and sold than the Diplomat and Gran Fury combined. There were more than a half million Fifth Aves, less than a quarter million Diplomats, and a little over 100,000 Gran Furies and 1980-81 LeBarons each. The first generation (1977-79) Diplomat and LeBaron were much better sellers than the second generation, but there was also a gas crisis that ate into large car sales from late 1979-81. For 1982 Chrysler decided to refocus the M-bodies, with the Dodge and Plymouth going after fleet sales, and making the Fifth Avenue a Cadillac/Lincoln alternative.

Also, the numbers would be further affected by the usage. Fleet cars lead tougher and shorter lives whereas near-luxury cars will tend to sell to older people who take better care of their cars.

I've been thinking about purchasing one in the near future as a daily driver. Plentiful parts, reliable, and comfortable.

I haven't been able to find any conclusive documentation on this, but I suspect Mike Ehrmantraut chose this car as his daily driver because it's predecessors, (the '80 and '81 LeBarons) and sisters/counterparts' (The Plymouth Gran Fury and Dodge Dipolmat) were all used by the Philadelphia Police Department during his time there as a beat cop. In the "Cobbler" episode of Better Call Saul, Mike makes reference to the car having sentimental value during an estimate for reupholstery. Although this was an excuse to negotiate with Nacho, the son of the shop owner, I believe there may have been some truth in the statement.
