"It's three days before Christmas, and I drive the Rover Vitesse Fastback to the Royal Norwich Hospital. You can't park here, I've got special permission, because I'm distributing a large box of second-hand toys to the sick children."

Never has there been such a perfect match between a character and a car since Sean Connery's Bond and the Aston Martin DB5 in Goldfinger. Alan's car featured in the "Knowing Me, Knowing You" Christmas special: "Knowing Me, Knowing Yule, with Alan Partridge". He receives it from the local Rover dealership in exchange for frequently plugging the brand during the show. He replaces it with a 2.5 litre V6 Sterling model in "I'm Alan Partridge" a couple of years later.

"The good thing about the automatic transmission on these things is you don't have to do those tricky hill starts."

Right - I've only just managed to see this episode for the first time recently. There are a couple of things I notice about this....

1. The Rover isnt actually a Vitesse. Its an 820Si as indicated on the right-hand side of the boot lid, the 'Vitesse' badge is located on the left-hand side of the bootlid and incorrectly placed.

2. The later mk2 2.0 Vitesses (As Partridge's car) never came as an auto, it was never an option. The 820i/Si did have that option not being sports cruisers or whatever.

I get that this is called a Rover Vitesse Fastback and the 'Vitesse' name is referred to (When Alan gives a scale model to the BBC controller, the car is actually a Renault Safrane as made by scale model car makers 'Vitesse' though referred to as a Rover Vitesse)

Also no rear spoiler and it seems no front fog lights
Don't think that gold is a Vitesse colour either.
