Nope. 1981. http://members.fortunecity.com/copcarsite/mbody2.html It has the blue plates that were last issued in 1984 -- Last edit: 2007-02-22 23:57:05 |

It's a 1985 and let me explain why. This is definitely an authentic CHP Diplomat, it has the tan interior, CHP flat black spotlights, correct shotgun placement, correct rear deck lights, correct CHP-style pushbar, etc, etc. Now I remember seeing this movie and this car had in the rear deck an amber and a red light facing to the back with another blue light facing to the back also on the right side of the rear deck. These blue lights were not added until 1985 on all CHP cars, and seeing as how the M-bodies didn't receive third brake lights until the 1986 model year (clearly, this car has no third brake light), it has to be a 1985. One other thing about the license plates, they were still used even after '81 on some cars, just take a look at this LTD: http://members.fortunecity.com/chpcars/chp1465a.jpg -- Last edit: 2009-01-15 03:49:07 |

I saw that rear window light configuration on a 1988-1991 Ford LTD Crown Victoria. What was the blue light for? |

I couldn't tell you exactly, but I'd say it was added for extra visibility or safety. By the way, to narrow your statement down, you would have seen a 1990-1991 LTD. |

Right. I saw this car from the rear, so I couldn't really tell the year |

The blue/yellow Calif. plates were last issued in late 1986 or early 1987. |
