Judging by the Ford logo being on the grille, 2003+ |

2003-2004 XLT model. I think the license plate reads 5F18512, but when I ran it on the California Smog test site, it came back to a 1996 Ford F-150. |

Those kids are brave. I wouldn’t take it too far off the beaten path. Though it has ample ground clearance, factory 4-wheel-drive is not offered for these heavy-duty full size vans. The only form of traction assist was the optional "Traction-lok" rear axle (limited-slip rear differential) AdvanceTrac with electronic traction control, wouldn’t arrive until the 2006 model year. |

5F38512 for the plate number (per the 3rd thumbnail) if that helps..? |

I think it's definitely a 1 on the plate and not a 3. Either way I thought the same thing so I looked that plate up and it came back to a different Ford model. |

it's funny how that number changes back and forth every time i look at it... almost makes me wonder if it's not either (1 or 3), but a fake plate with a random symbol inserted in as that digit. either way - not important if it doesn't get a hit on the smog site i s'pose. |

Actually, I just looked at it again and it reads 5FSB512. I was thinking that the only letter could be "F" as I was not sure if this would have fallen under the truck classification system or not. The California Smog Test site lists it as a 2004 "E350 ECONOLINE VAN CTWY." That would be wrong as 1998 was the last year they were badged as Econolines. And I have no idea what "CTWY" means. I would normally think cutaway but this one obviously is not. But at least we have the model year now ![]() |

The passenger versions of these vans do not get the truck/commercial classification license plates. Only the ones with just the front buckets, less windows get the truck/commercial license plates. Ford used to call the passenger versions Club Wagon and the commercial ones Econoline to make it easier. |
