That looks like a seriously customized 1970 Ford Torino, or maybe even a Fairlane 500.

DVLA website I guess. It can come in handy sometimes!.... And yes it's a 1971 Torino

As Simon says the DVLA is good if you think you have a probable manufacturer and have the reg number.

http://www.vehiclelicence.gov.uk/EvlPortalApp/index.jsp go to "vehicle enquiry" and insert reg number and manufacturer.

Wow. It's somewhat disturbing that anyone can get licence plate and find the owner of a car or truck that easily. On the other hand, it's certainly useful for us if we want to track down cars, trucks, buses, motorcycles, and tractors in British movies.

Do you know if there's way of looking up US plates?

I don't think you can do that so easily here. Nearly a decade ago, some stalker in New York State used something like this to look for a girl he liked, and he killed her. NYSDMV removed this function from their website, and a lot of other states followed after that.

This car was later taken to the Isle of Wight and used to promote the Island Wax Museum, still painted yellow but covered in black bats and writing.

It was definitely a V8 whenever it drove past me - I saw it several times in the late 1990s, and was told by someone (probably not correctly) that it was registered as a Chevelle...

I applied for the job driving it around 5 days a week during summer but sadly didn't get it. Was quite surprised when I watched the film and saw it doing duty at a banger racing circuit.

I'm wondering if the original oblong parking lights have been removed and replaced by those small white round lights?

Odd, because to be road legal in the UK cars built after 1965 need amber/orange indicators (parking lights)
