This is either a 1980 or 1981 model Honda Accord. Since this shot didn't prominently feature the cars in the scene, the art department didn't need to put in the extra effort to install fake prop license plates on them. After looking up "1BAB898" on the California DMV's Bureau of Automotive Repair website, I found two records of this car passing the smog test in 1996 and 2001. Unfortunately, the year of the car isn't clear because the two records indicate different years (this was likely a typo by the smog technician). See for yourself: https://www.bar.ca.gov/pubwebquery/vehicle/pubtstqry.aspx The "1BAB898" sequence also fits exactly within the time frame of license plates issued in 1981, since "1AAA000" was first issued in April 1980, according (no pun intended) to this website: http://www.15q.net/ca.html All of this information indicates that this was a real license plate from a real car. |
