Isn't this a Jag? I see no chrome side stripe.

Would someone respray a nice silver Jag, brown?

You have to tell the DVLA if you respray it so brown would be the later colour.

Maybe they just got it wrong or it's a particular colour that they somehow decided was a (very light) shade of brown.

Some Daimler S3 did not have the side stripe (the "basic" Sovereign), but the smooth number plate plinth is Jaguar. So XJ6 [S3] 4.2.

So I wonder why he thought it was a Daimler.

Jaguar Sovereign, I believe (top badge on the right of the numberplate)

Agreed. Daimler stopped making the ordinary Sovereign in Nov 83 and it was rebranded as Jag from then.

Was it sold as XJ6 or Sovereign?

Now you're asking .. I think as Jaguar Sovereign 4.2, alongside the poverty XJ6 4.2.

G-MANN wrote So I wonder why he thought it was a Daimler.

Who, me? Well, it doesn't really matter, but since you're so curious, it's because I was pretty green when I made these entries. I made a mistake like anyone else, that's it. Also, I think I checked the plates on some other site than DVLA, saying it was a Sovereign, can't remember which site ... so I listed it as such because I was in a hurry that day if I remember correctly. And at the time I didn't know about a Jaguar Sovereign, only the Daimler.

I didn't mean you really, I meant dudley. Just the way he wrote "Under 'Jaguar'" (in inverted commas), or maybe he didn't mean it the way I thought he meant (like the DVLA had listed a Daimler under Jaguar) It's OK, people make mistakes ;)

Maybe one of our Scotsmen here is able to identify the Clan, the guy on the left is belonging to (possible by the Tartan of the Kilt) :p

Clan Destine-Ops would be appropriate for the context of this - absolutely brilliant - series. What's the stretch limo seen through the Jag windows - does it match the Merc W123 Lang or is it something else?

W123 Lang indeed. This one: /vehicle_274111-Mercedes-Benz-Lang-W123-1978.html ?

Yes that's the entry, but the cabin looks curvier and too many bits of window trim?? I wondered about one of those S-class stretches, but can't see it in any other picture.

Nono, W123 Lang is fine. No detail is visible, which gives a reason to think about any other model ;)
