DAF555 ◊ 2006-03-30 13:13	I don´t know if this is the correct designation for a danish car, the scene is from Copenhagen, in sweden this Plymouth based 1939 Dodge would have been called Royal and the chassis [DP-8] The danish cars might have been assembled in Denmark, possibly in Sweden or Norway, I don´t know. According to an earlier discussion with pilou these Plymouth based cars usually used the code D-12 and had some different names depending on refinement and country. This one seems to match the Plymouth De Luxe level in trimming so I picked the modelname Special De luxe until we have better suggestions. pilou ◊ 2006-03-30 15:13	The Dodge export models based on the 1939 Plymouth (114 inch wheelbase chassis) distributed in Europe were coded series D-12 and series D-12-X corresponding to their engine capacity and power output.The D-12 series corresponded to the cars equipped with the small 2.8 litre engine ( english taxable rating was 19.8 hp,belgian rating was 15 hp) and the D-12-X series to the cars equipped with the 3.3 litre six ( english taxable rating was 23.4 hp,belgian rating 18hp).Both were Plymouth engines.The 3.3 litre car developed 82 hp @ 3600 rpm.These cars were simply called Dodge " Six" or "DeLuxe Six" but were also often called the " Luxury Liner" Dodge by the public , a term that was used for the regular US model. In Canada, the situation was different because only the 3.3-litre powered cars were sold there.They had what they called the "Standard Six" or simply "Six" coded D-12 and the "DeLuxe Six" coded D-13.Both used the 3.3 litre 82 hp engine but there were trim and equipment differences.The "Standard Six" still had a floor-mounted gearshift , it was remote control at the steering wheel on the "DeLuxe Six". As opposed to this ,the regular American Models with the 117 inches wheelbase using the 87 hp 3.6 litre engine were coded series D-11. The car here would correspond to a D-12-X or to a canadian D-13 indeed matching the Plymouth DeLuxe in trimming and with the 3.3 litre engine. In Scandinavia the situation may have been different as you already told me that they were called " Royals" -a designation normally used on Chrysler's cheap series- in Sweden.I guess that the cars sold in Denmark were also assembled in Sweden rather than in Antwerp. Export Chrysler products are fascinating to research because being non-American they are poorly documented in the classic litterature.
