If it were an 82 there would be the amber side marker in the front fender between the header panel and the front wheel. if it were an 81 the side marker would be on the front edge of the header panel, they were solid amber, the 1980 model used the same amber marker light, so the car in this picture is not an 80 or 81. 78 and 79 models used a clear marker light lense, under that lense was a thin amber reflector that only covers half of the marker light. the angle that this car is on in the picture, hides the amber reflector within the marker light. however in the picture you can see light reflecting from the chrome strip just above the bumper. Only 78 and 79's had this chrome strip. I will say that this malibu is either a 78 or 79.
