I've always liked this truck. Also in the third movie, the lights have KC covers but it's still the same truck. 1985 biff tannen, who takes care of this truck while Marty's gone, probably added the light covers.

So, would it be a 1986 model? It's in October.

This is not a very accurate comment. Remember Marty was not gone for any length of time and Biff Tannen in this 1985 details cars fo a living thats why he had Marty's keys not because he "takes care of the truck" The KC Covers are on at the introduction of the Truck in the begining of the movie and also at the end of the 3rd movie. It is uncertain why they are missing in this particular scene, but the reason is deffinatly not that Biff Tannen added them to the truck

i'm gonna guess '85 and not 86 jnelson09 because 1. the movie was made in late 84 and early 85 and 2. statler toyota was clearing out "all 1985 model toyotas" according to a commercial heard at the beginning of the movie

Also remember at this particular scene, Biff tells Marty that he's "all done waxin' her up". I know I wouldn't clean the truck with the KC covers on. Also notice that in this picture, there is a California License plate on it and in the third movie there is not.

in the first movie this is a 1985 toyota SR5 xtra-cab how ever, in the second and third movies they were not SR5 package trucks if you look on the first movie the seats have the SR5 logos ebossed on the seat faces and has the power windows the truck in the second and third movie have standard gray seats with darker gray head rests, and the sail (vent) windows typical of the manual roll-down windows. and from what i can see it is the same truck for number two and three. how ever it is still a 1985 x-cab 22-re solid-axle toyota.

make no mistake they were all 1985 toyotas. they all had the EFI emblem on the b-pillars and all have the solid front axle. "1985" was the first year of the fuel injected 22-re motor and last year for the sought after solid front axle.

but in the second it has the plate but a different number on the plate. in the second one it's 2BAK860 and the first is hard to make out, i think it says 2E2P916 if any one out there knows the first trucks plate number definitively i would like to know i am going to aplly for a cutom tag for my 1985 black SR5 Xtra-cab 4X4. and this is my third choice. so let me know soon. choices 1. OUTATIME 2. MC FLY 3. 2E2P916 3. 2BAK860

This is something to consider: in BTTF Part I, the Toyota truck has the word “TOYOTA” in vinyl across the tailgate.

However, in Part III, it’s completely gone. It’s not even in a smaller font on the bottom-right corner like I’ve seen on some Toyota trucks from that era.

So what does that say? Did they take an older (by then 5-6 years old) Toyota truck and just repaint it black? Also, we haven’t heard from “Statler Toyota” since Part I. Maybe Toyota didn’t want them to use their name in the second and third movies?

Very nice looking truck

I barely deciphered the license plate as 2EZZ916 and after looking it up on www.bar.ca.gov , results came back as a 1983 Toyota Pickup, lasted tested in 2010. The license plate is different in Back to the Future 2: /vehicle_29063-Toyota-Truck-RN50-1985.html and I did not find any results after looking it up.

It is still a cool truck.

Now I realize I read the license wrong by one letter since the image has been upgraded to HD, the plate is actually 2EZP916 and there's no results for it on the CA smog test site.

Crispin Glover quit the role because of these scenes. Marty now ostentatiously rich and Biff Tannen as his servant. It's a strange message.

yeah, got that hard one to get ( at least here , i ordered 3 , only got one.. ) . Just sad that they gave it a 1987 grille and even say that its a 1987 ( and has an extra top fog light, no bar on the bumper with the 2 other fogs in it. )
