This old Oldsmobile belonged to Livia Soprano (Nancy Marchand), Tony's mother. She is only seen driving it in episode 1.2 "46 Long", when she accidentally runs over one of her friends. Afterwards Tony puts her into a retirement community/nursing home. The car reappears in series 2 when Janice Soprano (Aida Turturro) comes back to New Jersey and moves into her mother's house and takes over the car.

Original color? That green looks real bright to me for a 63. Also, why would Tonys mother have a fourty year old car?

I thought the same thing: Why would a mobster's wife drive the same old car forever? I'm sure they could have afforded a newer car.

Mobsters and their family aren't supposed to flash their ill-gotten wealth with flashy cars.

Although characters like Christopher Moltisanti (Lexus, Mercedes CLK, Range Rover, Hummer, Maserati, Escalade EXT), Johnny Sack (Maserati, Mercedes S-Class) and even Tony even himself (Escalade ESV, a Porsche Caynenne for Carmela, not mention his big house) do.

I think it might have been to show how she was old and not keeping up with things. Tony decides to put her in a home, much to her chagrin. Old people can be slow to replace things and this sometimes includes cars. My grandad kept driving his 1985 Audi until 2005 when it finally broke down (or something needed fixing) one time too many. And the other day at the petrol station I saw an old man in an E-reg (1986) Ford Fiesta. But this car would been 35 years old when series 1 was filmed and a car that age is a classic and requires a bit of dedication. But I think it's unlikely that someone would keep a car that long unless they really wanted to because at some point the repair bills would outweigh the value of the car.

Just rewatched this 1.2 on AE. Maybe "Livia" keeps the car because its the last car her husband owned.

The Olds also is seen parked outside the Soprano home in 5.4, "All Happy Families." Possibly intended to be the car that Tony Blundetto is driving after his release from prison (before inheriting Feech's Caddy after he goes back in.)

I doubt that, maybe Janice was visiting.

I also think that Livia probably rarely drove except to go to the store, church, etc. That might explain why the Olds seemed to be in such good condition even after so many years.

It has the same license plate as Carmela's Mercedes!
