Yep...being auctioned off at Barrett Jackson Scottsdale as I type this. It's a 1978 911 Carrera rebodied extensively into a 996. |

Denise Halicki, H.B. Halicki's widow, sold it for $35,000 ($38,500 with the usual fees) She told the audience she would also throw in the opportunity to go out to lunch with her and talk about the movie! (First question I'd ask: "Denise, why did you ruin the original movie by replacing the soundtrack?" It'd probably be a short lunch ). Bidding was less than enthusiastic. The narrator pointed out many of its pieces were copies of Porsche parts, and the sunroof was just an outline made of striping tape. They never showed the interior, if it had one... |

The one in main picture, when Kip arrives at the warehouse, looks a genuine 996 to me, wearing the 18inch alloys. The one standing at the Porsche dealer at the very beginning is the real 996, too: Then the 1978-based replica comes, starting from the dealer's glass smash: The fast driving close-up shots show the replica, again. You can easily recognize it by the smaller 17inch alloys instead (which were available on the 996 Carrera too): There is quite a visible big gap between the front bumper and the car body, just above the front marker (which is turned off for some reason, maybe for visual effects) - another clue which would confirm this is the mock 996 as it would not be acceptable on a then brand new Porsche. When Kip joins the Civic at the red traffic light, the real 996 seems to be back again, along with its front marker on: |
