SUZUKI T200??? From what I have seen of the bike, from what I can see of it now, I had originally suspected it was a Jawa from Czechoslovakia, or an MZ from East Germany, especially what with the front end, the fork shrouds the length of the lower shrouds, what appears to be a 16" front wheel in a tall disproportionate fork, that's all JAWA - but none of the Jawa twins matches up right. I was also thinking MAYBE an evolution of the pre-war DKW or NSU two-strokes? But yeah, this thing really SEEMS like a Suzuki. From what's LEFT of the thing..... Just saw this film the other day for the first time (And maybe the last? Ha-ha!) and I loved the bike - hate the fact that it was "Chopperized" - in that classic '60s style, meaning any old geezer from back then tells you "I used to ride a chopper...." well THIS is what you should picture 'cause THIS is what 99% of 'em had - Quite an awesome lil' bike if you set it up RIGHT, as a Grand-Prix race replica! But NOOOO - every Charles Starkweather Wannabe in the West just had to be "radical" had to "blow the squares' minds" with the ape-hanger bars & shit like that. If you can't already tell, I HATE the "Biker Culture" of the '60s - and though it may seem like a paradox to SOME folks, I absolutely LOVE vintage bikes! well, THIS kind o thing is specifically why, 'cause their whole schtick was so damn ANTI-MOTORCYCLE! They absolutely HOBBLED the things. Even to this day, I talk to "biker" types, and it's like they're WILLFULLY IGNORANT as regards all things motorcycle related. They might know a thing or two about three or maybe four different Harleys, the ones showcased in "American Iron" type magazines, over and over and over again - but that's about it! I guess the '60s guys at least still rode some Brit-Bikes, European singles twins and "twingles" - it wasn't even forbidden to dig a Jap bike, well not really early on I suppose. So I really shouldn't shit-talk "Arch Hall" & his generation - if it weren't for what he did to THIS bike, what they did to EVERY bike they got their hands on - with the stupid ape-hanger bars! ARGH. Well I love any movie with an odd-ball bike in it, where the bike's at least showcased or plays a role to some degree and isn't just furniture. You'd think maybe this very same specimen should be in a MUSEUM somewhere! |

This is a Yamaha YDS-1, period Suzukis (Colleda & T10) had no frame down tubes. |
