Only with this view I think just 1956 Mercury. If you get extra pic (even partially) of its side, '56 Montclair had thin chrome in the bottom of the side. If not, Monterey or Custom. |

It is a 1956 Mercury Custom Hardtop : the Monterey and Montclair series had a round Mercury medallion on the front fender section of the trim bar between the front wheel arch and the grille.This was absent on the Custom series as is the case here. |

Pilou's comments regarding ornamentation on the Monterey and Montclair models is correct. Such trim was absent on the Custom. However, for 1956, there was an even lower grade model called the "Medalist". It not only did not have the Monterey/Montclair trim, it also lacked the side trim link between the front and rear which came together on the rear door area of the other 3 lines. It looks to me as if this car does have the side trim, so likely is a Custom. -- Last edit: 2009-11-12 15:04:30 |
