I checked the first episode almost second by second, and here is what I found: Dexter is using Kia from the very beginning of 1st episode - it is on the driveway to his house, following the victim in Kia etc. Then in 0:28, on his way to a crime scene, he is driving Ford Escape. In 0:35, when going after the victim there is an interior shot which looks like Escepe again (modern, blue backlight of entire dashboard), and then he arrives a minute later in... Kia. After homicide he takes the body to Kia and finaly crashes. If there were no two Escape shots in the middle of the episode, I would think that it was supposed to be Kia, but now I guess it was not. In the fourth episode Dexter is driving his Escape again, and Rita has Freestar or Windstar.
