ss, Rába is the name of a Hungarian manufacturer, which is why people were asking whether this is a Roman or a Rába.

Here is the interesting forum: Link to "tramclub.org" where (somwhere in the middle) we can see that most of, if not all of, old Romans had model names started from "R", which perhaps stand for Raba (what this word means?!) as there is also this version listed as R19215 DFK. We can list all Romans without model nameas as R-Series.

Surely R stands for Roman. As for "Raba", perhaps Roman collaborated with Rába (the Hungarian company) at one time, since they both had connections to MAN. ss didn't seem to be aware of the Hungarian Rába until I mentioned it.

Gag Halfrunt wrote Surely R stands for Roman...

But even ss wrote it interchangeably - he used or R or Raba. Hungarian Rába in this time was mainly known in other countries from their engines made on the license of MAN - RábaMAN (the best known vehicle powered by them were the Ikaruses 200). You are right it can be, that Roman used their engines. Google gives a lot of results for "Roman Raba", though official documetation use rather "R", perhaps a kind of nickname or something... On the other hand hard to belive that Roman, which wasn't small manufacturer didn't make engines.

I stand corrected.

By the way, that Romanian forum has a thread showing some prototype Ikarus 200 railbuses. One of them is a very literal interepretation of the word railbus. :)

The first one is quite serious. The short one, I've already seen in the internet, looks definitely... gorgeous, especially from the side without doors. ;)

To be very clear; MAN truck factory sold the patent of F8 model to:
1. romanians from Brasov truck factory Roman SA (Uzinele Steagul Rosu - old name), which made Roman trucks - Roman came from romanian MAN = Ro-man.
2. hungarians from Gyor truck factory Raba kft, which made Raba trucks - Raba is the name of a river who cross near Gyor city.
Conclusion:
Roman - from Romania.
Raba - from Hungary.

The retroreflective sticker on the mudflap is an anachronism.
