A cut down touring car having a race with the Ford 999 - probably especially for the movie. I think this car is a circa 1925-6 ReVere - one of the last of the line - which used a big four cylinder Rochester-Duesenberg engine developing 100hp - high for the time. |

I think this might be a Shaw Speedster, built for about two decades by the Shaw Manufacturing Company of Galesburg, Kansas. The four portholes on the side of the hood are distinctive. Shaws were built in a variety of styles and probably sizes as well, this seems to be one of the larger chassises. |

Waldron W Shaw Livery Co, Chicago. “a roadster powered by a Rochester-Duesenberg 4 cylinder engine…..in 1921, the Duesenberg 4 was replaced by a Wiedely 12 cylinder but few sold.” The car you describe (Shaw Manufacturing Co. Galesburg Kansas) was much smaller and powered by a Briggs and Stratton, or a Shaw 2 1/2 hp engine. It may be that some confusion existed over which car was which when a replica was constructed. The Revere also had a Rochester-Duesenberg 4, later replaced by a six-pot Continental engine, which further adds to the confusion. http://www.enginehistory.org/members/articles/DuesenbergAircraftEngines.pdf Having taken a good look at the information above, I am filled with admiration of the achievements of the Duesenberg brothers. Hardly a 2hp single! -- Last edit: 2022-07-30 14:37:32 |
