Better than before face lift. |
◊ 2009-07-06 17:59 |
Actually, it looks even uglier than before. What a hateful little car. |
◊ 2009-07-06 22:49 |
Maybe if they would do away with the grille that extends far into bumper, it may make it look better. |
◊ 2009-07-06 22:51 |
I had to get used to it firstly, it looked odd at first glance when the car appeared for the first time, but it's ok now, i'm used to it, i like it. |

Can you say flimsy? Nasty fake wheel nuts: As you can see, the hubcaps are held to the edges rather than held by the wheel nuts; Hit a pothole or even drive at motorway speeds and wave the hubcap goodbye. Fit and finish FAIL! Ugly, flimsy and not that cheap. AVOID! -- Last edit: 2009-07-08 16:12:38 |

isn't it always like that? (those of the Peugeot 106 & 206 are like that) -- Last edit: 2009-07-08 15:41:59 |

Indeed... since when are hubcaps attached with nuts instead of to the edges... it's the alloy to have nuts to (obviously) be held, unless he means another thing. |
◊ 2009-07-08 16:12 |
I meant held by the wheel nuts. |

The Aveo they tested costs £9,355. For the same price you can buy a Hyundai I20 1.2 5 door for £9,000 and you do get a fairly amount of kit and a five year warranty. |

All cars in America are just like that. The hubcaps have plastic nuts, but they're attached by the edges. I don't know what the distributers were thinking. |
◊ 2009-07-08 18:24 |
They are all like that, you often see one hanging on a tree. some helpful person trying to get it back to its owner. |
◊ 2009-07-08 19:38 |
Or you could buy a used Focus or Golf or something else that's actually good but second-hand, that's what I'd rather do. -- Last edit: 2009-07-08 19:39:55 |

Not only for Britain. All around in Europe all Daewoo-models were sold since a while as Chevrolet. Was Daewoo Germany (the automotive group of the Daewoo-company) the only European dependance, which was collapsed by bankrupcy? |
◊ 2009-07-08 20:37 |
Unfortunately nowadays you can see more and more of these in Germany - a result of the 2500 € "Abwrackprämie" wrecking-bonus. For this piece of sh.. late 90ies Audi A4, Mercedes C-Klasse, VW Golf III, Vento, Ford Mondeos, Opel Vectras and many more were crushed... But the latest lough is the best lough - I will be malicious glee in a few years, when the owners will try to sell them again. Who shall be so stupid and have the will to buy it.? |

If you're referring to the collapse of Daewoo in 1999: GM bought some Daewoo Motor assets and established GM Daewoo (GMDAT) in 2002. The only overseas asset that GM acquired was Daewoo's share of VIDAMCO in Vietnam. The truck division was bought by Tata and Daewoo Bus belongs to...none of the above. FSO became independent. UkrAVTO (owner of ZAZ) built up a majority stake and FSO now does contract assembly for GMDAT. Daewoo Automobile Romania (Automobile Craiova, the former Oltcit factory) was renationalised in 2006, but Wikipedia doesn't say who actually owned it between 2002 and 2006. It was bought by Ford last year. Avia in the Czech Republic likewise emerged as an independent company and was bought in 2007 by Ashok Leyland. UzDaewooAuto, a joint venture between Daewoo and the Uzbekistan government, continued in business. In 2005, the government bought Daewoo's stake, reportedly for $110 million (presumably going to Daewoo's creditors). They still make the Nexia and first generation Matiz. -- Last edit: 2009-07-08 21:38:34 |

Not all American cars have base plain steel wheels with stick on wheel covers that simulate spokes. The cheaper cars do, but more expensive cars have real alloy wheels, with real spokes. i.e. Ford did put plain steel or aluminium wheels with wheel covers on the Crown Victoria. But snazzy real alloy wheels were available. |

@Gag: thanks for the infos. Where are the Chevrolets (the disguised Daewoos) for the European market produced today? Poland or Romania? Is the whole "Chevrolet-Daewoo"-range from there or are some models imported from Korea? |
◊ 2009-07-10 18:25 |
Not Romania, because the Craiova factory was bought by Ford and production of Daewoo models ended in June 2008 according to Wikipedia. It seems that the Aveo is assembled by FSO, but the rest are presumably imported from South Korea: http://www.fso-sa.com.pl/news/dwnews.html#new_Aveo |
◊ 2009-07-10 19:45 |
Polish made Aveos are, like for now, not exported to the EU countries (in fact they are rare even here). Everything is from Korea I think, except the Captiva, which seems is made somwhere in Europe (or at least they planned to make it in one of the Opel plants). |
◊ 2009-07-10 20:22 |
I think the Captiva/Antara is also made in Korea, as well as Thailand, Mexico & Russia. |

@Ingo: You're totally right. I live ca. 1 km from a scrapyard, and besides the cars you mentioned, they crush even more valuable cars like BMW E 30,32,34 and 36, a lot of them equipped with wood interior and leather seats. Apart from that, of course Mercedes A-Klasse, 190, W 124( even two nice W 123, one of them was a T-Model). Not to forget Audi B4/C4. I even saw those guys wrecking not only a 1999 Alfa 159, equipped with all extras but also one of the last Volkswagen Beetles, probably made in Emden. As we already know-it's a mad world. |

Falls ein K 70 dort auftauchen sollte, sag bitte Bescheid. Danke. |
◊ 2009-07-14 23:02 |
-- Last edit: 2014-12-30 22:33:36 |

Thanks TheHeartbreakKid15, the export marker is not applicable means made for British market. |
◊ 2009-10-03 01:24 |
No, it means that the car has not been recorded as exported after being registered in the UK. |
◊ 2009-10-03 01:36 |
Oh, thanks Gag. I think I misunderstand what Export Marker means, now you have explained to me.. |

Got one of these as a rental car last weekend, to think I could have had a Renault Clio I don't like the way the badge is below the front grille. |
◊ 2009-11-12 23:39 |
Actually there are a lot of cars in America equipped with hubcaps that are held on by the lug-nuts. Hondas have them, as do most GM cars (not equipped with alloys) Of the cars I have owned that came with hubcaps I remember that my Civics, Accords, CRXs, Corsicas, Berettas, Sunbirds, Cavaliers, Grand Ams, etc. all had hub caps held on by the lug nuts. |
