This is from the classic episode where Goober takes a car apart and reassembles it inside the Mayberry courthouse... -- Last edit: 2009-05-18 22:55:22 |

I just saw this episode with the Rambler yesterday and thought I would look it up here to see if it was correctly identified. It is not. This is a 1960 model, not a '58. Note the "American" nameplate toward the front of the fender, a feature of the 1960 model year. In 1958, "Rambler American" was written toward the BACK of the front fenders. In '59, the location was the same as in '58 but the "Rambler" part of the nameplate was removed. This is a Deluxe rather than Super or Custom owing to the absence of window trim or side spear. Changing to 1960. 1958 to 1960 Rambler American Identification: So far as I can tell from a review of available documentation and photos, these 3 years looked identical from the front and rear. The only difference is in the side nameplates and trim. 1958: Deluxe and Super lines. No side trim (spear) on any model. "Rambler American" toward the REAR of front fenders. Super models have bright trim at base of side windows and front/rear window bright borders. Deluxe models have rubber borders. Two-door sedans only. 1959: Deluxe and Super lines. Same as 1958 except the side nameplates just say "American". Station wagon models added. 1960: Deluxe, Super and Custom lines. "American" nameplate moved to the FORWARD edge of the front fenders. Super and Custom models have side spears. No bright trim at the base of the side windows on ANY of the 3 lines. Four door sedan models added. -- Last edit: 2010-08-24 22:27:28 |
