A 1966 UK plate!!!! |

How come? |

I have absolutely no idea how or why. But ABC 123D is a 1966 UK plate format, which does not appear as far as I know for any other nationality. |

Why that excitement? It's just of the many faked movie plates. Although it looks British -shall look British- material, size and font aren't authentic. |

Actually the material, size and font are all authentic - just, like the registration number, much too old for the car. |

Are you really sure about the authenticity of material? It doesn't look like the actual UK-made plates of two laminated plastic tiles. The edges are too edgy and the yellow has a too strong orange-shade. -- Last edit: 2012-08-21 16:08:16 |

Yes, I am sure. Before the plastic sandwich became universal, there were various types of reflective plate; this one is obviously alloy with Scotchlite and separate plastic characters. The Scotchlite tended to discolour over time - this plate might have been made in 1966. There were also embossed alloy plates with the characters painted black; I have owned cars with both types. |

Many cars from Taxi movies were provided by Peugeot. Recent cars like that destroyed were just test cars from the factory, I guess? (like the BMWs in the German "Cobra" series) If so, maybe this one comes from Peugeot's UK plant, and was used with that plate for testing there. |

But then hadn't it to be only the modern, 1997-version? I'm still convinced, that it's just one movie-fake. so not worth to discuss its authenticity. |

It still begs the question of why. |

And don't forget that we cannot see if it's RHD or LHD. By the plate, and the comment of Antoine, can we say that is an RHD 406 Break? |

We have no rational explanation for the 1966 UK plate, so just assume the car is normal French LHD sacrificial victim. |

The car seems to have RHD wipers |

But the position of the outer mirrors is looking LHD-ish. |
