Isuzu something, the Korean version of the Opel Kadett C/Vauxhall Chevette/Chevrolet Chevette. To identify by the door.

Isuzu Gemini, I think.

Or a Daewoo Maepsy?

Never heard, this name. In my old auto katalog's from 1979 and 1982 the Korean C-Kadett-derivate was named Isuzu Gemini.

Gag Halfrunt UK

2009-03-31 22:58

But Isuzu is Japanese, of course. And the Gemini had a flat front like the Opel Kadett, which doesn't match this car.

Oops, you got me. :D

Now I will go down in the cellar to search for the auto katalog's. I think to can be sure, that there were Korean Kadett-derivates included...

 Strange, now I have them here. Usually they have listed all cars, which were in production in that year, but the only Korean car shown in the 1979-issue, is the Hyundai Pony. It's written, that it's the only model, Hyundai produces.

In the 1982-issue there is only a pic of the Pony, too and a remark, that Hyundai produces also the old Ford Cortina with a 1.4-liter-Mitsubishi-engine.

And a short text about KIA Brisa. It's written, that they shall give up the production of cars and shall merging with Saehan, a 50% daughter of GM and Daiwoo ("Daiwoo", not "Daewoo", perhaps a mistake). They produce the Mazda 818 in license as "KIA Brisa II R 1300". And they were planning to produce the Fiat 132 and the Peugeot 604, too.

O.k., the "auto-katalog" is not omniscient. There also several assumptions, mainly about brands, which were unknown or uncommon in Western Europe. They weren't even sure about derivates of German cars, built in South Africa or Southern America.

So it's better to be careful with these informations.

Was also sold as Saehan Gemini in Korea - how about that? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6WoEbfCgReo (different model year though).

Proof that this is a Maepsy (from the YouTuber who posted the Gemini commercial):

Google can't find any photos of Maepsys, so this video will have to do. :)

I remember seeing one of these cars when I was in Aruba a few years ago. I don't remeber if it was Daewoo or Kia, but it was Korean, and It was based on the Kadett.

It's interesting to watch the related clips of that one, Animatronixx has shown. The Daewoo Royale Diesel was the Opel Rekord E. :wow:

@TRT_BMT_IND: are you sure, that it was a Korean made car? Cars based on this GM-platform were also made in South America, so as Opel K 180 in Argentina and Chevrolet Chevette in Brazil.

Oh, yes, it was. During my Rekord E/ Senator A-years I always liked to perform some 'badge engineering', rebadging my cars as Vauxhall or Holden - but I always refused to turn one of them into a Daewoo, for I felt that wouldn't have been much of an upgrade...

I remember it had a Korean badge, but I do not remember what one.
Edit: After actually watching the video that Gag Halfrunt posted, the car I saw was defiantly a Daewoo Maepsy

I appreciate the research everybody did :king:

But I found this page:
http://rachelkso.blogspot.com/2008_09_01_archive.html

With this text:
Quote The last car in the South Korean historical section. This is a 1982 Saehan Maepsy, which is based on the Opel Kadett - or rather, Isuzu's modified version of it. Saehan was the new name of GMK by that point. The standard Maepsy had an expensive, imported 1.5-liter engine; this car has a 1.3-liter Kia engine instead, which came about because of the economic recession of the early 1980s, and because Kia needed to get rid of surplus Brisa engines after being forced to shut down Brisa production in 1981. The Maepsy remained in production through 1989; later fuel-injected versions were named Maepsy-Na.

In 1983, Daewoo entered the automotive business by acquiring Saehan. Saehan was renamed Daewoo Motors shortly thereafter, and underwent massive European and American expansion in the 1990s. But when Daewoo went bankrupt, Daewoo Motors was sold to General Motors, becoming GM Daewoo.

And here are the rest of the photos from the museum visit.

So it must be a Saehan Meapsy...

Gemini is a name Holden used though?
On that same website in my comment above was also a picture of a Holden Epica... (A rebadged Chevrolet/Daweoo Epica)

Yes, Holden's version of the "T-car" was the Gemini, and it used Isuzu engines.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holden_Gemini

The Holden Gemini saloon had a slanted front (which appears to be the origin for the Maepsy's front), but the coupé and van had a flat front like the Opel Kadett and Isuzu Gemini.
