One star each. Both are made after 1959, so they're more goofs. In fact every Checker in every 1950's scene in this movie was made after 1959. |

Both of these are real Washington, DC, taxis (according to IMDb, some of this movie was filmed there). On the left is a Capitol Cab and on the right is a Diamond Cab; both companies are still in operation. "Dupont" refers to the Dupont Circle neighborhood. The license plates are of an old style I'd never seen before, but a search reveals they're probably genuine. It's cool to see how these liveries look on Checkers. |

Some more information about this shot: It was filmed on Pennsylvania Avenue at or very near the intersection with 3rd St. NW. Two cars ahead of the Capitol Cab Checker is a Yellow Cab Checker (orange and black), so each of DC's three largest (I think) cab companies are represented in this shot. The tower visible in the distance is the Old Post Office Pavilion, completed in 1899 and one of the tallest buildings in Washington. On the left, partly obscured by the trucks, is the East Building of the National Gallery of Art. It was designed by I. M. Pei and completed in 1978, so if this is supposed to be the 1950's I can see why they tried to hide it with trucks. ![]() |

DUpont is the old telephone exchange. When we went to 7-digit phone numbers, DU on the telephone keypad is 38 (3 = DEF and 8 = TUV). Diamond Cab's telephone number is still (202) 387-6200. |
