This motor was sold from 1979-1985 in Germany. After 1985 the motor was taken out of program. |

Why SEL? From the 2nd pic it looks like a regular SE. |

Since the car was one of the 'main characters' of that episode, they most likely used many cars for different scenes, so not everyone was probably a SEL. Maybe one of the movie cars had a badge? Can't remember, saw the ep. about two or three years ago... -- Last edit: 2021-06-19 21:21:22 |

I've watched this episode two or three times recently (it's really cool and you'll definitely watch it again and again) and i can say that there is no scenes where the car has a badge. Btw in the scene when that Mercedes leaves the repair station with Ed on the board, the length of its rear door forced me to think that in this very scene they used a SEL. But in the other scenes, including road stunts, it's most likely a SE. |

Actually, they always used cars with standard wheelbase, but indeed several ones: at least each one without any badge, one that was clearly debadged and a stunt car with roll bar. In one scene the radio moderator says, the car is a blue '380 SL', and Susanne and Semir estimate that the Benz has about 200 hp, what would overall fit for 1982-85 380 SE then. |

Four pics for the episodes 'main character' aren't enough IMO, so here are finally many (stunt) thumbs: BTW, the episode bases on the movie Runaway Car, so the Benz bases on a 1974 Ford Maverick. |

a bit ironic that the best episode of the series is just a remake of an american TV movie -- Last edit: 2021-07-05 23:06:17 |

Thanks for the pics! But two things that remain unknown to me are: which of these cars is 'clearly debadged'? And which is the color code of these Mercs? Just wanted to make a scale model of it. |

Colour looks like 932 lapisblau. Please upload pics when you're ready There were scenes when it has three holes in trunk on the left, I believe like in thumb 11. |

I still say it's better than the original. |

Now I have the base for a conversion, an IXO 500SE, and am about to buy a lacquer spray for it. I noticed that the colour 932 is actually in the scene when Benz jumps over the construction site, but in the other pics it looks more like grayish-blue. Is there any similar color code in Mercedes palette? -- Last edit: 2021-10-30 19:10:06 |
