I am not well up on trucks but I think this is an Albion Reiver like this one http://flickr.com/photos/14936165@N00/2936606478 although I believe that when Leyland took over Albion they used this style of cab on some Leyland models.

Its the LAD (Leyland Albion Dodge) cab again. A steel (not fibre-glass) cab made by Motor Panels Coventry and used by all three companies.

The Dodge grille was different to Leyland/Albion. The Albion had the 'sun-rise' name plate - Leyland was spelt out in letters. A long way in the distance but this could be Leyland I believe.

As the "Western cars in the DDR"-specialist in my plate-collector's-forum has told me, some of these Leyland Beaver were indeed officially imported into the DDR (Normally there were never ever British trucks sold in Germany, in the West neither). But they were not loved by the truckers of the big VEB-hauliers like DEUTRANS (too unreliable, too thirsty, too British technic), so very soon they were given downwards, to less importants VEB's and then to private companies (they were allowed in the DDR, if they had max.10 employees).

The most paradoxical detail was, that the replenishment of original new spare parts (always a drama in the DDR, for anything) has worked very well, also for the final private owners. When the DDR-import-company tried to cancel the contract, because noone was happy with these trucks, and they wanted to deepen their contacts with Volvo and Mercedes Benz, Leyland has persisted the contractual performance, which included also the delivery of a fixed amount of spare parts for a fixed period.
So the DDR had to pay hyper-rare Western currency for buying parts for stuff, which the state doesn't own any more. The private owners (which cold by the parts for DDR-Mark) had been happy.

Not surprised they didn't like them , this was a very poor cab for a premium heavyweight truck and was more suited to lighter cheaper trucks like the Dodge.
