It looks like a 78 or 79 Pontiac Phoenix. |

I think it's hard to tell from this view. Could be Nova, Phoenix or Omega. A view of the front perhaps? |

nope, only this view. But I'm 100% Sure it's a nova |

Why are you 100% sure it's a Nova and not a Phoenix? Here's why I think it's a Phoenix: The hubcaps on this car are Pontiac hubcaps (this model wasn't used on the early-1977 and older Pontiac Venturas but was common on the mid-1977 to 1979 Phoenix). The center pillars are blacked out which is common on the Pontiac Phoenix but not on the Nova. Unfortunately, the front end of the car isn't visible on this picture but the side marker lights at the rear are integrated to the taillights so it's a Phoenix. Srangely, the 1977-79 Pontiac Phoenix model had two taillight designs which weren't specific to a model year, body style or a trim level as both the base and LJ models featured both styles in the 3 model years, in the 3 body styles: one taillight looked like the previous Ventura taillights with separate side markers like those found on Novas and Venturas, and another style that wrapped around the quarters with integrated side markers that looked more like those of the Olds Omega and Buick Skylark taillights (the pictured car seems to have those so it can't be a Nova). Maybe the kind of taillights depended of the plant where they were built. The Phoenix emblems are located much lower on the front fenders than the Nova emblems are. Again, this car seems to have the lower emblems. For more X body pictures, see this site: http://www.pontiacventura.com/ -- Last edit: 2006-02-07 09:09:23 |

philr, I agree with your comments above, except the wheel covers on this car could be Buick. Buick made some in this style, and it was pretty much identicle to the Pontiac ones except for the center emblem. Also, you are correct about the wraparound tailights not being on a Nova, but the tailights on this car look more like the Skylark style to me. They are 'fatter' than the style from the Phoenix LJ model. In addition, the chrome borders on the B-pillar lead me more towards the Buick than the Pontiac. I'm OK with it, if it remains listed as a Phoenix though. |
