Land Rover provided many different Defenders with solid roofs for the movie.

I tried to figure out how to determine a model year for 1990s Land Rover Defenders, but there seems to be no simple answer. Is there any way to determine that? For example, the indicators on the front wings look different on many models, but I can't see a pattern here.

BTW: 1990+. Who know it better?

I'm not sure about this one - may not be a Defender. Push button door handles were Oct 86, black bumpers Nov 87, smooth roof panel for Station Wagons was Dec 88, so it's 1989+. Grille and bonnet edge badges have been removed, which stops one line of identification.

The wing indicators is confusing - UK-built Defenders almost all seem to have rectangular, along with some pre-Defenders. Small round as here could mean a local spec and/or non-UK build, possibly pre-Defender as I'd expect rectangular to have become default format from UK introduction. Any clue to actual location?? Are the AZ plates convincing??

Defender-like clues are the headrests, but nothing else I can see which is diagnostic. So questions without definite answers, although 89 to mid-90s seems about right and I can live with it staying as Defender (which means late 90+).

Fairly sure the vents under the grille came in with the Td5 engine in late 1998.

The locations are in Spain and the UK.

Sandie wrote Fairly sure the vents under the grille came in with the Td5 engine in late 1998.

I'm trying to work from a newly-bought L-R picture book which has huge dollops of detailed info, but not yet understanding quite how its sequencing works. It seems to say that 94+ normal (ie not County) had body colour grilles and bumpers, suggesting this is pre-94 (although some of its pictures seem to contradict this). No mention found (yet?) for the vents under grille and too many of the 1990s pictures are dark Landies, making it impossible to tell if they're there.

However it makes one definite claim for the Td5 having "distinctive" slats in the headlight panel which the acompanying photo shows as a stack of 3 small horizontals between the upper and lower sidelights, and I don't see them on our main. Most of the 90s pictures also have wing vents - again I haven't found an explanation yet for which did/didn't have them - there are 5 pics with Td5 wing stickers - 3 with, 2 without - but both withouts show the RHD passenger side, and all 3 withs the RHD driver side, so the vent may be one side only. However all 5 Td5 pics show the headlight panel slats, and the vents under grille are there in each case. So seems Td5 all had vents under grilles, but unclear what else may or may not have had them

If this is Spain, Santana made Landies until 1994 (then sold the tooling to Iran - I didn't know that until 5 minutes ago) but late Santanas had lots of minor trim/grille differences. So if this is a UK build in E, 1995+ seems likely, which brings the argument back to why it has small side indicators instead of the established-by-now bigger rectangular format.

Or maybe it's a freshly painted mongrel to look shiny new for the cameras??

Santana never made the 90/110/Defender. Instead they developed their own Series IV (later Santana 2500), which had similar-ish plastic trim at the front.

So I think we can exclude Santana.
