Chaika (Чайка), not Chaiker |

Sad that it is not possible to change the nickname as "GAZ Chaiker" sounds simply excellent Like name and surname of the main character in some old b/w American detective film. -- Last edit: 2008-12-18 20:44:17 |

Made from tooling purchased from Packard after they went under. They only slightly altered the styling, to boot. Look at this car, then look at this 1955 Packard Patrician and note the similarity: Link to "i.pbase.com" -- Last edit: 2009-08-05 00:49:01 |

First, the myth is that Packard sold the dies to their pre-war 180 model to the Soviets, who used them to manufacture the ZiS 110, not their post-war models when they went under (1958) and the GAZ M-13 Chaika. That one is completely false. Second, Packard never sold its dies to the Soviets, or anyone. Ever. Besides, there are subtle yet significant difference between the 1955 Packard Patrician (that model was changed the next year) and the GAZ M-13 Chaika. They are not related in any way. Any similarity between any Packard and any Soviet car is just a coincidence. -- Last edit: 2012-09-25 04:10:25 |

If you want to know the (major) differences between the Chaika and the Patrician, here they are: Roof's wrong, hood's wrong, sides are wrong, grille's wrong, doors are wrong, wheel wells are wrong, bumpers are wrong, windshield's wrong, and the entire body of the Patrician is much more rounded. Also, the Chaika has tailfins. The Patrician does not. About the only similarities are the headlights. These are not "slightly altered styling" designs, these are major differences. GAZ may have borrowed styling cues from Packard, but they did not, in any way, copy the design. -- Last edit: 2012-09-02 06:44:50 |
